Panama and Costa Rica Won’t Join Miss Universe Following Trump’s Offensive Comments






Panama is the latest Latin American country withdrawing from Miss Universe Pageant in protest over Donald Trump’s comments about immigrants.

The Miss Panama Organization and the Telemetro television channel announced that they won’t particiapte in or broadcast the Miss Universe contest partly owned by the business mogul.

Panama joins a growing number of Latin American nations blasting Trump’s remarks as offensive and ignorant. Colombia’s Paulina Vega, the reigning Miss Universe, condemned Trump’s comments in an Instagram post Thursday as “unjust and hurtful.”

Earlier, organizers in Costa Rica and Mexico have also withdrawn from this year’s contest.

During the announcement of hi candidacy for president on the Republican ticket, Trump said: “They are bringing drugs. They are bringing crime. They’re rapists,” referring to Mexican immigrants. “Some, I assume, are good people,” he added. He also suggested building a wall between the United States and Mexico.
