Imelda Schweighart has resigned as Miss Philippines Earth on Monday after the controversial statements about the newly crowned Miss Earth 2016 Katherine Espin of Ecuador.
In a report by ABS-CBN news:
“The decision came after Schweighart and her mother Annabeth Bautista met with Lorraine Schuck, executive vice president of Carousel Productions, which runs the pageant.
Organizers of Miss Earth and Miss Philippines Earth accepted her voluntary resignation at 5:52 p.m. Monday.”
According to report, Imelda’s mother was alarmed from the bashing she’d been receiving on social media.
Before her resignation, Imelda apologized for making “unmindful statements,” explaining that what she said was “supposed to be private” in a phone interview with CNN Philippines on Monday.
“I was talking to my supporters, thinking I would be comfortable with them… They went there to support me, they know what I have been through, the hurt I have been through in this pageant,” she said.
