Miss Universe 1969 Gloria Diaz believed that Maxine Medina is only a token candidate or “saling pusa” in this year’s Miss Universe beauty pageant.
“She cannot be the winner. She can be first runner-up. I hope I’m proven wrong for the first time in my life. I want her to win. I want us to be so proud, but you know, that’s life,” Diaz said in an interview with Karen Davila on ANC’s Headstart on Friday.

“We are the host. The host country cannot [win]. I cannot serve lechon and bring it back to my kitchen kasi I’m giving it to you,” she added.
Diaz has her picks for the top five and she named Miss Universe Canada Siera Bearchell, Miss Venezuela, Miss Dominican Republic, Miss Thailand, and Miss China. She said these girls are beautiful and gorgeous.
