Blind balladeer Carl Malone Montecido from Bacolod City successfully defended his “Tawag ng Tanghalan” title on “It’s Showtime.”
On Saturday, February 18, 2017, the 18-year-old singer serenade the audience with his heartfelt rendition of ‘You Raise Me Up’ by Josh Groban which earned him a spot in the semi-finals.
Montecino defeated daily winner Ronnie Solajo from Luzon, who also impressed the judges with his own rendition of ‘Ngayon at Kailanman’ by Nonoy Zuniga.
This is Montecido’s second attempt. He first became the defending champion last October but lost. He decided to join Tawag Ng Tanghalan again as he wants to continue serving as inspiration other to people with the same disability.
Montecido, also a semifinalist of talent show “Pilipinas Got Talent” back in 2010, will return to the “It’s Showtime” stage on Monday together with other quarter semifinalists of the singing contest.
