A TV reporter and cameraman were shot dead during live broadcast Wednesday morning from a shopping center in Virginia.

The two killed were identified by WDBJ colleagues as reporter Alison Parker, 24, and cameraman Adam Ward, 27.

Meanwhile, WDBJ President and General Manager Jeff Marks announced the news in a live broadcast at 8.45am today.

“It is my very, very sad duty to report that we have determined through the help of the police and our own employees that Alison and Adam died this morning shortly after 6.45am after the shots rang out,” Marks said.

“We do not know the motive, we do not know who the killer is.? I just got off the phone with the state police – they are working very diligently to track down both the motive and the person responsible for this crimes against two very fine journalists.”

A video circulating online shows Parker interviewing someone about tourism on Bridgewater Plaza in Franklin County when suddenly at least eight shots were heard. Parker can be heard screaming while the camera drops to the ground and captures what appears to be a fleeting image of the shooter.

Update: The shooter has been identified as Vester Lee Flanagan, a former WDBJ reporter who also went by the name Bryce Williams. Flanagan, whom authorities say shot himself to death after being named as the suspect in the killing of Parker and Ward.
