A powerful earthquake with magnitude 7.4 strikes near Christchurch, New Zealand on Sunday, November 13 according to the US Geological Survey.
Reports said, the quake was strongly felt in Christchurch, Wellington, Taranaki, Hamilton and Auckland.
“I hope everyone is safe after the earthquake tonight. The civil defence is looking into the impact of the quake. Follow them to stay updated,” Jon Key, the country’s prime minister, wrote on Twitter.

In 2011, at least 185 people were killed and hundreds injured after the 6.3 magnitude quake hit the town.
