President Rodrigo Duterte To Create Citizen Hotline ‘8888’

“I will put up a hotline. The number I am asking from Smart and Globe is 8888. If you have a complaint, it’s there in Malacañang,” said President Rodrigo Duterte in his first day of office.

According to Duterte, he would assist by calling help from the mayor, police, or barangay captain of the concerned citizen.

“Kung kayo’y inabuso, kung kayo’y pinagsinamantalahan, kung may hindi kayo nagustuhan sa gobyerno, tumawag kayo, day and night at ‘yung mga importanteng problema na nakikita ko, aksyunan ko kaagad,” he added.

He also asked the public, if ever, not to make prank calls to his hotline, “Just tell me the truth. Huwag kayo mag-imbento ng istorya. Huwag mong ubusin ang panahon ng gobyerno.”

Duterte also promised to put an end to the growing number of online gambling in the country. “Online gambling must stop. It’s out of control in Pagcor (Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation),” he said.

“There is no way of government collecting taxes there online. How do you collect taxes there? Not exactly the taxes but I do not want a proliferation of gambling activities all over the country. Mahirap ‘yan,” said the country’s new president.
