It’s Official: Angel Locsin Can No Longer Play in Star Cinema Movie ‘Darna’

It’s official. Actress Angel Locsin can no longer play the role of Filipina superhero Darna in the upcoming Star Cinema movie.

In an interview by ABS-CBN news, Locsin explained that she needs to back out again because of her spinal problem.

“Kailangan ko lang isipin ang buhay ko muna, kasi hindi po ako pinayagan ng doktor ko. Pero I tried, ABS-CBN tried, pero may mga bagay na kailangang i-let go para sa mas makakabuti. Ako tanggap ko na. Sana maintindihan din ng mga tao na hindi ko na magagawa ang Darna,” Locsin said.

The 31-year-old Loscin said she already accepted the fact the she can no longer fly as Darna. She also asked her fans to support the new Darna.

Here is the statement by Kane Errol Choa, Corporate Communications Head:

“ABS-CBN, Star Cinema, and Angel Locsin have mutually arrived at a final decision that she will no longer pursue the “Darna” movie due to her medical condition.

“We gave Angel our full support during and after her treatment in hopes that she would portray the iconic Filipino heroine. Because of Angel’s passion and dedication, she resumed training for the movie after undergoing surgery and therapy for the disc bulge in her spine.

“Unfortunately, Angel experienced back pain twice during training, prompting her doctor to advise her not to participate in strenuous activities to avoid permanent damage on her spine.

“We would have loved to see Angel fly again as Darna and take our hats off to her for the gargantuan efforts she has put in for the project.

“We wish her well as she will begin working on other projects, like a special role in “La Luna Sangre” with John Lloyd Cruz, a movie with James Reid, a movie with Coco Martin, and a teleserye.”
