The 70-year-old senator declared her presidential candidacy on Tuesday, October 13, during the book launch of “Stupid is Forever More.”

“I cannot say under the law that I will run for president but I am allowed to say that I am running for office,” she said.

“If I become president in the near future, this country will become better,” Santiago said. She added that she will run “because I’ve already gotten over my cancer and there’s nothing left to do.” she added.

She also said that her Vice Presidential bet is already announced, but refused to name. She will be filing a Certificate of Candidacy within this week.

Santiago ran for president but lost to Fidel V. Ramos in 1992.
