Duterte: The Philippines is so Dirty, the Mayors are not Doing Anything

President Rodrigo Duterte expressed his dismay over the garbage problems in the Philippines. He said Mayors and Governors are not doing their jobs in keeping their cities clean.

On Friday, Duterte said he would create a special body to look into the intelligence and discretionary funds of local government units (LGU).

“I will create a special team. I will also review your intelligence funds. These are funds that you can easily pocket. Those mayors who are not performing, you make your city clean and peaceful. That is why you are being paid, that is why you are in your beautiful offices,” Duterte said during a meeting in Camp Capt. Domingo Leonor in Davao City.

“The Philippines is so dirty, the mayors are not doing anything. There is trash and garbage around and yet we have to wait for the plastic to enter the drainage so every time there’s a downpour, excessive rain, water, there is clogging,” the President said.

Duterte also called the attention of those government employees abandoning their desks during office hours.

“We are paid by the people to work eight hours a day. Bayad tayo. So ‘pag inindian mo ang tao, eh wala ka sa opisina mo kagaya dito ng national, local, pareho rin…after lunch break, na nasa mga mall, papasyal-pasyal, ‘pag nangyari ‘yan ulit, I will dismiss ka,” Duterte said.
