The next Miss Universe beauty pageant could be held in the Philippines in January 2017 according to Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Wanda Corazon Teo.
The newly elected secretary confirmed that she has met with Miss Universe president Paula Shugart who have expressed interest in bringing the pageant to Manila.
“I had a meeting with Paula Shugart and made a proposal to have Miss Universe held here but I have to get the approval of the President first,” Teo said.
In a separate interview, Undersecretary Kat De Castro said if plans goes well and if approved, we will have the Miss Universe pageant here in the Philippines on January 29, 2017.
“We know that the Miss Universe is one of the prestigious pageants that we have right now in the entire world. In other words, if we can hold it here in the Philippines, it would show a very good image of the country to the international community that we can hold such a prestigious pageant,” she said.
Once approved, the venue of the 65th Miss Universe pageant will be held at the Mall Of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
