It’s official! Shadow play group El Gamma Penumbra from the Philippines was crowned winner of the pan-regional talent search “Asia’s Got Talent” held Thursday night, May 14, 2015 at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.
Khusugtun, a traditional music ensemble from Mongolia, placed second; while Filipino classical singer Gerphil Flores, who is also a former “Pilipinas Got Talent” contestant, finished third.
Talento from Thailand in fourth place while dance group Junior New System and Triqstar from Japan were part of the top six. The other finalists who failed to win the prize were Philippines bet Gwyneth Dorado, Gao Lin & Liu Xin from China and Dance Thrilogy from Singapore.
El Gamma Penumbra will receive US$100,000 and a regular performance at Marina Bay Sands.
Last week, the group performed a world-class performance during the grand finals live performance night. They received a standing ovation from the four judges for their very touching interpretation of ‘Colors of the Wind’ from Walt Disney animated movie Pocahontas.
Their performance tackled several global issues such as dynamite fishing, killing of animals and the rising flood levels brought about by typhoons.
The former “Pilipinas Got Talent” finalist moved Indonesian rock icon Anggun to tears, “I actually promised not to cry tonight but it’s actually, you know what really touched me, what really make me fall in love with you, your performance is the fact that the possibility of messages that you can put is endless. And tonight you raised awareness on how important the mother nature is, and animals, and more than ever. You know what? Our job as entertainers, we are here to entertain people. But if you can, if we can raise awareness on subject that really matters. That makes our job more noble. Wonderful, wonderful performance. Amazing,” said Anggun.
