It’s official. TV host and actress Kris Aquino will play an Asian princess in the movie adaptation of Kevin Kwan’s bestselling novel Crazy Rich Asians.
Aquino is the first Filipina to be cast in the Warner Brothers movie. On Sunday, she flew to Los Angeles to meet the producers of the film and for contract signing.
Crazy Rich Asians will star Constance Wu as the lead Rachel Chu, and international star Michelle Yeoh will star as Eleanor Young, while newcomer Henry Golding is set to play the male lead Nick Young.
Supporting cast will be Gemma Chan as Nick’s cousin Astrid Leong and Sonoya Mizuno as Araminta Lee. Production is set to begin in April 2017 in Singapore and Malaysia.
The film about old wealth will be directed by Jon M. Chu. He’s also the director of Hollywood flicks “Now You See Me 2,” Justin Bieber: Never Say Never,” “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” “Step Up 2: The Streets,” and “Step Up 3D.”
