Former back-up singer of Alicia Keys, Jermaine Paul, was crowned winner of NBC’s television show “The Voice Season 2” on it’s finale episode Tuesday night, May 8, 2012.
Jermaine, 32, from Spring Valley, New York, and member of Blake Shelton’s team on the show, beat out runner-up Juliet Simms of Team Cee Lo with only four percent lead in the finals. Team Adam’s Tony Lucca came in third; and Team Christina’s Chris Mann came in fourth.
“I just want to say thank you for all the people that voted for me,” said Paul, who earned $100,000 and a record deal with Universal Republic. “My wife, my children, my father, my mother, my mother-in-law.”
The season two finale included live performances by all four finalists – Jermaine Paul, Tony Lucca, Juliet Simms and Chris Mann. Justin Bieber gave the first live performance of his new single, “Boyfriend,” while iconic crooners Hall & Oates performed their 1977 classic “Rich Girl,” country trio Lady Antebellum sang “Wanted You More,” and rapper Flo Rida served up a medley of his hit single “Wild Ones” and new cut “Whistle.”
