Hollywood couple Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are calling it quits after five years of marriage according to media reports on Friday.

TMZ reported, Holmes is the one who filed for divorce in New York on June 28, citing “irreconcilable differences.” She’s asking for sole legal custody and “primary residential custody” of Suri. Tom is apparently “blindsided” by the news.

“Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children,” Cruise’s representative told The Associated Press. “Please allow them their privacy to work this out.”

Holmes’ attorney, Jonathan Wolfe, made a similar plea Friday: “This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family. Katie’s primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter’s best interest.”

Cruise, 49, and Holmes, 33, were married on November 2006 in Italy. They have a daughter, Suri age 6 and adopted two children, Isabella Jane and Bella. Cruise has two children with his previous wife, Nicole Kidman. The actor was also previously married to Mimi Rogers. This was Holmes’ first marriage.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer discussed the possibility of Top Gun 2, confirming there have been talks of making a sequel to the 1986 blockbuster film for years. In an interview with MTV, he said, “We tried to develop [a sequel] and we couldn’t do it…And then Tom took it over and he tried to develop something and it never quite happened. We were recently approached again to start talking about it but, you know, nothing yet.”

He also mentioned Tom Cruise’s character into the modern world of Naval aviation, “We kicked around some ideas because the aviation community has completely changed since we made the movie a long time ago. So we have to find a way in and how to incorporate the Maverick character into it.”

However, Tom Cruise has already denied any participation in the sequel of Top Gun.

Tom Cruise is currently shooting Mission: Impossible 4 with Jeremy Renner (The Avengers) and Josh Halloway (Lost); the film is set to hit theaters in December of 2011. Jerry Bruckheimer is currently shooting Pirates of the Caribbean 4 with Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz, Tom’s ex-girlfriend, set to be released in May of 2011 (with a trailer coming this December attached to Tron: Legacy).
