Miss China Wenxia Yu, 23, was crowned Miss World 2012 on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Dongsheng Fitness Center Stadium, Ordos, Inner Mongolia, China.

Yu, a music student who said she wants to become a music teacher also won the Miss Talent Award in this year’s competition. She’s the second contestant from China who was awarded the title. The last time was in 2007 when Zhang Zilin took the honor.

A total of 116 contestants joined the pageant, the highest number of contestants in the history of Miss World.

The first runner-up was Sophie Elizabeth Moulds of Wales and the second runner-up is Jessica Michelle Kahawaty of Australia.

It was the first time that the Inner Mongolian city of Ordos had hosted the international beauty pageant.
