The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) re-implemented the Anti-Littering Law in Metro Manila effective September 16, 2010. The law originally took effect on September 15, 1996, but was suspended last August 2002.

The Anti-Littering Law prohibits the following acts like littering, illegal dumping, illegal disposal of garbage; urinating, defecating, spitting in a public place or as simple as throwing candy wrappers and cigarettes.

Under the MMDA’s anti-littering law, violators would be issued Environmental Violation Receipts (EVRs) and would be made to pay fines of between P500 to P1,000. Those who cannot afford the fine are ordered to render community services.

Violators with unsettled records will not be able to get a clearance from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). Visit the MMDA Website for more details of the law.
