Pop star Jennifer Lopez confirmed that she will quit America’s singing contest American Idol on ‘On Air With Ryan Seacrest‘ morning radio show Friday.

“I just don’t feel like I can be there every single day all the time like I have been for the past two years. I feel like I have to do other things,” Lopez told Seacrest during the interview in Los Angeles.

“You know, I really was dreading this phone call with you… Of all the people I’ve spoken to, I have no problem just not saying anything to anybody, but with you… I dread a conversation like this, and you’re gonna make me cry. I honestly feel like the time has come that I have to get back to doing the other things I love to do that I’ve kind of put on hold because I love Idol so much… I could just keep doing Idol for the rest of my life, but that would be giving up a bunch of other things… I just feel like we had an amazing run.”

Lopez also said that she’s reluctant to leave the show because “fell so in love with the show, everybody there [and] didn’t know [she]’d be so moved by the show, working with the contestants.”

She did promise that this may not be the last time she’ll grace the screen for Idol, telling Ryan, “I feel like no matter what you guys need over there, I’ll always be here. I feel like if you call me and say, ‘We need you to come in for the first show’ I’ll be there… I just don’t feel like I can be there for every show.”

Yesterday, Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler has decided to leave as judge of American Idol.

What about Randy Jackson? Reports that Mariah Carey is potentially inline to replace him?
