American wrestler Darren Young, 29, comes out as gay!
In an interview with TMZ, he was asked whether a gay wrestler could survive in the WWE, Young laughed, and replied, “Absolutely. Look at me. I’m a WWE superstar and to be honest with you, I’ll tell you right now, I’m gay. And I’m happy. I’m very happy.”
The site described the big revelation as big news. “Wrestling is a little different, particularly because of how physical it is, and how little clothing is involved – but Darren is completely unfazed,” the site said.
Young said he was not concerned that being the first openly-gay WWE wrestler could damage his career.
“I don’t think it matters,” he said. “Does it matter? Does it matter to you? Does it change what you think about me? I guess if you want to call it coming out. I really don’t know what to say it is, but I’m just letting you know that I’m happy with who I am, I’m comfortable with myself. And I’m happy to be living the dream.”
“Some people might not like it, some people will like it, but I’m here to please myself, I’m here to be happy.
“It’s very important to be happy with myself,” he added.
Darren Young, whose real name is Fred Rosser, made his professional debut in 2002. In 2005 he started appearing on World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) programs.
