During an interview, Manny Pacquiao insisted that he is definitely running for public office in 2010. According to Pacquiao, he wants to serve the people and wishes to be a Congressman of Gensan. He also said that the Filipino people are idolizing him in boxing and he wants people to idolize him in terms of public office.
Manny Pacquiao was defeated by a woman contender Darlene Antonino when he ran for congressman in General Santos. His first total knocked out by a woman, not in boxing but in 2007 Elections. Pacquiao continue to dream of becoming a congressman, he is certain that on 2010, he would get and win the masses.
Pacquiao’s success in boxing is absolutely our country’s pride. It’s not a secret. The people love him and hated him as well. It was so obvious that those who hated him are the people who want to make up his mind. They think, Pacquiao should not enter the political arena because it’s not his cup of tea.
In Philstar interview, Manny Pacquiao qouted, “I believe in social accountability. I can change the system. I’m not like some politicians who can be corrupt. I have money and I am satisfied with what I have earned from bloody work like boxing. What I want to do is bring government money back to the poor people.”
Oh it sounds like Pacquiao wants to be a hero of the masses. Following the footsteps of Former Philippine President Joseph Estrada?
Honestly, there’s nothing wrong in running for public office, but do you believe that getting into politics is the only way of serving the people?
In my opinion, i think there are other means of serving the people not only in politics. I am sure the decision of Pacquiao to run for Congress is influenced by people around him (yung mga pulitikong kurakot!) I don’t have issues about his education. I am not against his motives and plans. I am afraid of influential people around him and he would end like a crying cow. I don’t want him to run for Congress.

Well, given the fact that Pacquiao intention is noble. I honestly don’t want him to run for Congress. Why? Pardon me Mr. Pacquaio but you are not ‘educated’ enough to handle a city.
Guys and gals, please don’t get me wrong here, huh? I just don’t feel it. His geneoristy may be abused in politics and the definition of ‘fame’is so much different there.
I just hope no one will get mad at me but I am just giving my honest opinion about the matter. Peace ;)

Ang pilipinas lang naman ang ipinagmamalaki dahil tayo mga kababayan, ang pilinas at ang pagkakaisa ng bayan ang iniisip nya dahil dun ipinalo nya ang laban para sa bayan. Nakikinig ka ba sa kanta ni pacquiao? kung hindi ok lng yun…para sakin magiging mabuting halimbawa si pacquiao sa pulitika dahil taos puso at buong lakas nya inihandog at itinaguyod ang karangalanan ng pilipinas at nating mga pinoy. Kaya dapat lang maging isa sya sa mabuting halimbawa sa pulitika. Gusto ko sya sa pulitka, manalo matalo mn sa pag ka congreso panalo pa rin sya sa bayan. Kaya go ako ky pacquiao.

@jophilsuperman - i understand your point however i really don’t see him as congressman. tama si kuya angel cuala (see his comments below), puede naman siyang tumulong ng hindi na tatakbo pa sa kongreso tulad ni flash elorde.
please dont get me wrong again pero i have this subconscious perceptions kasi na all celebrity and political sons/daughters run only for a seat in the office for fame, power and fortune. Mangilan-ngilan na lang kasi totoo.

@jophilsuperman, personally naman mabait talaga yang si pacman. pero ika nga sa atin, kapag galit ka sa isang tao, patakbuhin mo sya sa politics. if I were pacman, i will unite the philippines thru some other means.
besides, lawmaking is different than running a government. like what i’ve said below, kung gusto talaga nya, he should try an executive position kasi marami naman syang followers at leadership skills lang naman kelangan dun.
pero sempre, di naman ako si pacman. ako si batman.

I have nothing against Pacman’s intention of helping the people. Problema lang kasi, baka pag naupo sa pwesto si Pacman, baka magpa control sya sa mga taong nakapaligid sa kanya sa politics. There are powerful people in politics who can “help you” OR “bring you down”. Madami pang pasikot sikot dyan. Hindi enough yung “faith” ng tao.

I am not in favor of Manny running, not because I do not trust his intentions but because naawa ako sa kanya. He is smart, but not smart enough para matutunan ang kabulukan sa Philippine politics. Lalamunin siya ng sistema and take note, sino ba ang tropa nya ngayon?
Public service I believe is not just about sincerity and honesty, it also about learning the game. Maaaring di cya magnanakaw, pero kaya nya kaya pigilin ang mga magnanakaw? Baka pati cya nakawan ng di nya alam!
Kung gusto nya talaga makatulong, magtayo siya na maraming foundation tulad ni Flash Elorde. Look at him, a very well-respected legend and hero in the real world.

madami nang pera si manny, di na nya kelangan tumakbo para makatulong sa tao.
besides, ang mga kongressman at senador o maging konsehal ka man ng bayan, ang trabaho nito ay gumawa ng batas. ano naman alam ni manny gumawa ng batas. kung saka sakali, mayor or gob, pwede pa, kasi admin work lang naman talaga yun, hindi lawmaking, leadership skills lang okay na yun.
nilamon na ksi ng traditional politics ang bayan natin kaya tayo mismo, nakakalimtan natin ang difference ng mga government positions. kaya kahit di naman qualified, basta kilala natin na mabait o gusto tumulong, ibinoboto natin.
kung ako ikaw manny, gusto mo rin naman makatulong sa bayan at boksingero ka din lang naman, ba’t di mo subukang suntukin yang katabi mo sa piktyur. sampol lang.

Siguro nga may ambisyon si Manny na maging public servant and to serve the people pero I’m sure ginagamit lang sya ng mga kapartido nya dahil sikat sya. Yon ang problema sa bansa natin, ang binoboto ng tao yon mga sikat - artista, basketball player, etc.
Sana magbago pa isip ni Manny at sana meron makapagbigay sa kanya ng tamang advice.
And as you mentioned Ambo, running for office is not the only way to serve the people. I am also not in favor of him running for Congressman or any public office. He should just stick to boxing which is he very good at. If the time comes that he has to stop boxing, he can become a boxing trainer/manager di ba? He can use his money to setup a boxing facility to train upcoming boxers to become a future world title holder.
