Justice for Overseas Filipino Worker’s Death Abroad

Jenifer Bidoya, a 27 years old Overseas Filipino Worker in Saudi Arabia was sentenced to death in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The merciful death of this young guy from Zamboanga came out in public last week. According to the family, some officials of the Department of Foreign Affairs informed them to keep the issue in private especially in media reporters. They were offered assistance, but it’s late Jenifer was already executed.

The desperate and hopeless family broke their silence and reported to media about the news. Reports said, DFA sent a letter twice in Saudi Arabia. Nothing happened, except the verbal promises by the officials of DFA.

Bidoya was in jail for three years for killing an unnamed Saudi Arabian man by stabbing him three times and strangling him with a shower cord inside the latter’s house. The two first got acquainted at the restaurant where Bidoya was working in Saudi Arabia. They got familiar to the point that Bidoya got invited twice to the latter’s house. The crime happened on the second visit.

Jenifer, second among eight siblings was a very helpful son . He would do everything to help his family especially his brothers and sisters. Jenifer is a good example of a Filipino Worker who’s destined to die without justice being served. His family believed that Jenifer was framed up and will never ever kill anyone. They also believed that he just defended himself, but the law in Saudi Arabia has to be executed.

The family will receive P100,000.00 in life insurance and P20,000.00 in burial assistance. Sadly, the body was already buried immediately after the execution at the site where Saudi Arabia’s criminals were buried.

The family claimed that they were ignored, no full support and no justice given by the the government.

If the government wouldn’t serve fair justice in all our Filipino Workers abroad who are facing the same fate like Jenifer Bidoya, who do you think will defend them in return?

it really is difficult to be working in a foreign land. the language is unfamiliar, the laws are unfamiliar. and the government is not yours.

which is why it’s important that our government step in quickly and effectively whenever we have citizens who are in trouble abroad. it appears, based on what the family was saying, that they were not satisfied with our government’s actions.

the media should scrutinize this event.

@kouji, ayaw ko na tuloy mag abroad.

    • AMBO says:

@kouji, It’s true. Been away for years and worked abroad. But that’s life. We need to learn and adapt as well sa bagong environment. Like what you’ve said, dapat bilisan ng gobyerno natin kung paano poprotektahan ang mga ganitong kaso. So disappointing!

  5. BM says:

Anlungkot naman ng post na ‘to. Magtatrabaho ka ng marangal overseas tapos you end up buried with the criminals.

  6. Nilo says:

    • AMBO says:

@Nilo, let’s just hope merong gawin ang gobyerno. Pansin ko dumadami ang kasong mga ganito. Eto i am watching the news. So sad. :-(

      • Nilo says:

    • jerick says:

@itot, stay sa pinas na lang ako..

    • AMBO says:

@itot, meron akong kaibigan na nakulong before. Was framed up for shabu daw. Maybe it’s an isolated case pero ilang isolated case ba meron? Dami!

      • itot says:
