A German climber managed to capture the moment an avalanche on Mt. Everest barreled into a group of people after Saturday’s powerful 7.8 earthquake in Nepal.

The video footage was posted on Youtube by Jost Kobusch, a climber from Germany who previously has posted clips about preparations for his expedition.

“The ground was shaking from the earthquake and as soon as we saw people running we were running ourselves to save our lives,” Kobusch wrote in the description.

At least 18 people died including Google Executive Dan Fredinburg and 61 people were injured in the avalanche. Tourism officials estimate that approximately 1,000 climbers were at base camp when the avalanche hit.
