Jamie Herrel from Cebu City was crowned winner of Miss Philippines Earth 2014 on Sunday night, May 11.
The 19-year-old Cebuana will represent the country in Miss Earth 2014, one of the biggest beauty pageants worldwide. See the Complete List of Miss PH Earth 2014 Winners here.
Aside from taking home the crown, Herrel also won several special awards like Best in Swimsuit, Best in Cultural Attire and Miss Solaire.
During the Q&A portion, Former Akbayan Representative Risa Hontiveros asked her, “Have humans been good to Mother Earth?”
“We haven’t been good children. In fact, I believe that we are the number one cause of our her problems,” she replied, receiving thunderous applause from the audience.
She added, “We are the reason why we’re having climate change. We are the reason why we’re having floods. But in return, if we can only help her, she can help us back and take care of us, too.”
