Filipino contestant Mary Ann van der Horst, 28-year-old health care worker, was eliminated from The X Factor Australia 2014 ‘Boot Camp’ aired Sunday, July 27, 2014.
Other Filipino talents, Erin Miranda and Justin Vasquez, were also cut from the boot camp while Marlisa Punzalan, Jal Joshua and all-Pinay group ‘Trill‘ remain in the competition.
On the Boot Camp episode, the 14-year-old Punzalan performed her heartfelt version of “Never Be the Same” by Australian singer Jessica Mauboy.
She will have to wait to find out if she will secure her place at Keating’s home visit.
“What we’re missing is the performance element, like you bring the audience in… Just feel the song, you’re Marlisa, the international superstar,” her mentor Ronan Keating said after her performance.
Punzalan was the first Filipino to enter the contest and took to the stage her rendition of The Beatles classic “Yesterday.”
