13-year-old Reed Deming performed a Bruno Mars hit “Grenade” on X Factor Season 2 auditions on Wednesday night, September 12. Simon Cowell had to stop him in the beginning of his first song “It Will Rain” because according to the judge, the young boy did not stand out at all or show what he truly is capable of.

“Do you have anything more stripped down?” Simon asked. When Reed mentioned he had a piano only version of Mars’ ‘Grenade,’ Simon allowed the audition to continue.

Here’s the judges comments about his performance:

Simon Cowell: You’ve got steal in your eyes. I think you’re a hard worker, but I want better vocals from you.

Demi Lovato: I think you’re so adorable and your stage presence just shines.

L.A. Reid: I have ot tell you that you remind me of this other little kid.

Britney Spears: You are completely and utterly adorable.

With four yes’ he moves on in the competition.
