One of the most exciting part of beauty pageants that people want to see is the Question and Answer portion. And last night’s Bb. Pilipinas 2008 Beauty Pageant was filled with excitement and fun as well. People love to talk about when someone committed a mistake (is it really a mistake?), especially in the case of Ms. Janina San Miguel. Janina, a 17-year old Mass Communication student from the University of the East “stands out” last night in the Q & A portion of the pageant.

Here’s Janina’s Q&A portion:
Paolo Bediones: Janina, how are you?
Janina San Miguel: Fine.
Paolo Bediones: Alright, so you won two of the major awards – Best in Long Gown, Best in Swimsuit, do you feel any pressure right now?
Janina San Miguel: No, I don’t feel any pressure right now.
Paolo Bediones: Confident! Alright! Please choose a name of the judge.
Paolo Bediones: We have Miss Vivian Tan.
Vivian Tan: Good Evening.
Janina San Miguel: Good Evening.
Vivian Tan: The question is, what role did your family play to you as candidate to Binibining Pilipinas?
Janina San Miguel: Well, my family’s role for me is so important becoz there was the wa- they’re, they was the one who’s …. very… Haha .… Oh I’m so sorry, uhmm …. My pamily .… My pamily .… Oh my god …. Ok, I’m so sorry .… I .… I told you that I’m so confident .… Eto, uhhmm, Wait .… Hahahahaha, uhmmm, Sorry guys becoz this was really my first pageant ever becoz I’m only 17 years old and ahahaha I, I did not expect that I came from, I came from one of the tough 10. Hmmm, so .… but I said that my family es the most important persons in my life. Thank you.
Here’s the video and watch it:
Janina hailed as the Bb. Pilipinas 2008 World and won the Best in Swimsuit and Best in Long Gown. Read more at Jessie’s article of Bb. Pilipinas 2008 Beauty Pageant.
So age does really matter? Being 17 years old is no excuse at all. We know several winners of the pageant who possessed the traits of a perfect beauty queen. Beauty and brains. Other candidates speak English well, but how many of them who got the title? So what if they speak in Filipino? So what if they bring their own translator like Venezuela, China and Japan. One problem i noticed in last night’s contest, candidates didn’t answer well the questions. They just keep on repeating the questions. I don’t know why the Bb. Pilipinas 2008 organizers didn’t even carefully screen all the candidates before stepping on the big stage. The over-all pageant from the production up to the candidates was a big dismay. Let’s just keep our fingers crossed while waiting for Janina’s competition in Ms. World 2008. Who knows?
Speaking of women, don’t you know it’s International Woman’s Day yesterday? So I am taking this opportunity to thank all the women in my life.
And to all women out there please visit iWoman Blog by Doc Joy Barredo.

she is the stupidest person at University of the East and in the Philippines right now!!
Bambam, i don’t know what the UE students will do if they see her.
I won’t be surprised if she’ll be treated lke a leper , once she gets back on campus. That is….. if she can pass enough of her subjects to stay in U.E.
ayaw magload ng video, nagloloko na naman ata ang great firewall of china. sa main Q&A nya ba sagot yan? pano sya naging bb. pilipinas world sa sagot na’yan?

nde ba mas questionable na enrolled sya sa mass communication tapos ung simpleng tanong nde nya masagot?
sabihin pang na mental block sya(pinoy pa ung kausap nya, what more kung nde na) sana nagawan nya ng paraan sagutin un ng mabilis gamit sariling wika.
sayang nde ko napanood, pero baka me replay.
Panoorin u sa you tube, type u lang Bb. Pilipinas at ma eentertain k n, actually, i have to say, n she doesn’t deserve n magrepresent ng country natin sa Ms. World, although, she is just 17, that does not mean n she can get away with her english kalabaw! Imagine, kung mananalo n pla ang mga katulad nya sa pageant, e di pwede n palang sumali c angelica jones at nung kumanta ng kiss me sa Ms. World na rin
Sa tingin ko, sa pageant, it is not just the beauty that counts, dapat you have brains as well..
I heard lately on tv news that she wanted to improve on her English communication skills and that she has ambitions to be a BROADCASTER and that’s why she enrolled in Mass Communications in U.E. Somebody should tell this CLUELESS girl that when you go on to college level, you’re already expected to have passed written/oral/comprehension English skills on the grade school & high school levels ! College-level English is merely a further improvement/enhancement of what one has learned from elementary to high school. So she might as well hire an English elementary or high school teacher/tutor first, before harboring any illusions on taking up Mass Communications.
And her gait/body movement when they filmed her for the tv news yesterday…… frankly, I’ve seen Ms. Gay Philippines candidates who can walk and pose better…. not to mention that she showed lots of small pimples on her face which had a thick layer of foundation for a 17-yr. old. So add to that her flat ass and lack of hips to lend womanly curves to her bikini, she’s not even all that complexion-wise.
Lastly, as for giving her or people like her second chances…. Unfortunately, beauty pageants are like live tv shows and concerts….. you don’t have the luxury of second chances on stage and simply don’t get to do retakes once the show gets rolling! So the window of opportunity is indeed a one-time chance and we can’t afford to send a terribly unprepared and dismally ill-equipped contestant… unless we want people to have one more thing to ridicule us with…. again.
Oh my gulay! Patay…
ayoko na!
GO JANINA! Initially, I also reacted why those who gave good answers were not given the major titles like the bet from Cebu in the recently concluded Bb Pilipinas 2008 pageant. But in the final analysis, I have to agree with the choice of Janina to be our representative to the Miss World pageant. She is tall and truly lovely. The communication skills can be developed in the coming months before the Miss World pageant. Afterall, the reining Miss World Zhang Zilin of China did not do well in her answer to the final question and answer portion in last year’s pageant. Her English was not all perfect when she explained that she could be the bridge between Miss World and Olympics Committee. But like Janina, she was the tallest girl and did so well in the evening gown contest. Visual impact will be Janina’s major arm in the coming Miss World pageant in Kiev. Out bet to Miss Universe pageant Jennifer Barrientos is a facial beauty that can easily be overshadowed by other contestants from India and Mexico.
I agree. the Miss World specially put a higher premium on poise, beauty and glamor rather than wit.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with having a translator.
They should have the courage to answer the question in their native tongue.
pede nmn fitz e kaso alm ng mga alien este ng taga ibang bnsa o buong mundo n marunong tyong mgenglish.edge n ntin yan kahit san bansa tyo mgpunta.

haha i saw that on showbiz central i think. my goodness how the hell is she going to fare in the ms. world pageant? somebody teach her english and wit, quick!
malamang sis ris magbitbit ng interpreter yan
sana. pero ever since we’ve prided ourselves to be an english speaking country, so sayang lang diba?
actually i feel guilty about saying she doesn’t deserve the title, now that someone’s mentioned that other candidates nga can’t even speak it. but the thing is, sana nga even if you answer in the native toungue dapat fluent pa rin diba? feeling ko kasi itong si ms janina, kailangan talaga ng one-on-one session with a speech coach.
she got seven months to go.. .she can still enroll to ENGLISH PROFIENCY PROGRAM.
Thats all fine.. malay natin siya na pala ang hinihintay para maging first miss world from the philippines d b!

SHE SHOULD PROVE US WRONG. EVERYONE DESERVE A SECOND CHANCE. siguraduhin lng niya, next time d na halata mali niya…it sucks. .i swear. one of the worst. .
well no one can tell baka sya p ang manalo jst give her a second chance wala naman masama bka magulat tau pag sya ang nakapag uwi ng korona… siguro masasabi nalang natin every one deserve a second chance and nobody can tell how lucky she is bcoz of this issue JANINA SAN MIGUEL if u think she is the one talk of the town katatapos lang ng paegent sikat n agad,,,,jst one more thing jst give her a chance and more self confidence para in the next nyang laban she knows her faults and this is the step line nya to prove to us n ang pagkakamali niya….god bless
As regards to the question of Vivienne Tan, the action shown by Janina on the stage is the apparent effect of her family’s role.. haha

Bb. English speaking Pilipinas.

Oh well.
we put such a premium on english that we forget to appreciate our own. he he.

janina is pretty..no question about it. the only problem is that she was not able to maintain that important factor or trait on all beauty contestants, “grace under pressure”. thats the reason why her answers was…the answers to the question is…err..hahaha, oh im so sorry. im only 18 yrs old and this is my perst time to write to a blog…eto, oh hahaha, im sorry. i was confident to write…ganito..oh, hahaha. okay, i believe her answer is not the right responses to the questioning. whew!
kidding aside let’s all give her a second chance. i just hope that she’ll make it better when she represents the country to the actual miss world beauty pag
eant. prove us wrong, janina! good luck
