Will You Survive the Blogosphere?
pinoyambisyoso.com | Jan 05, 2009 | Comments 47
I was talking to a friend a week ago and part of our conversation’s the growing number of people who are planning to enter the blogosphere. Fact is, thousands of blogs are created everyday. We both agreed that some of the novice bloggers entered the blogosphere “hoping” to make money online. We couldn’t blame their reasons and decisions in entering the blogosphere, but it would be best to make them understand that making money out of blogging is not an easy task. It requires discipline, patience and hard work.

As we continue our conversation, we also both agreed that the growing numbers of bloggers is just part of a trend. The booming industry of blogging nowadays has increase awareness among college students to professionals. Politicians are bloggers too! Even young people ages 12-15 years can make money online. One good example is Carlocab and his latest project called Worlds Youngest Bloggers. Indeed, blogging on the other side could be one source of income.
Last year i wrote about Blog, Ang Sagot sa Kahirapan? (Blog, Answer to Poverty?). A question based on theory and partial truth. The conclusion, blogging could be an “answer to our financial needs,” but not to poverty. We could make money in blogging, but how big we can make? We can make today, but how about tomorrow?
I consider blogging as a game of luck and a game of passionate and determined players. In the Philippines, many Filipinos will attempt to enter the blogosphere, but soon will vanish if they failed to achieve making money online. In reality, as the saying goes “many are called but only a few will succeed”.
Yes blogging is another exciting place for people who loves Friendster, Multiply and Facebook. Didn’t you notice that majority of the bloggers are from this Social Networking sites? Like i’ve said, Blogging is exciting, but few will survive. Yep it’s a game of survival. Those who can write regularly on a daily basis will stay while others will quit to go on other pursuits.
Now here’s the question, are we overcrowded in the blogosphere? How big is the blogosphere? Find more answers in this very interesting article, Blogging in 2009: Year of the Earth Ox.
Finally, do you believe that blogging is also part of the trend? We blog today, but not tomorrow? Will you survive?

If the Pinoy blogosphere is indeed a community and not a dark and scary Darwinian jungle, with your help and just even kind words, we who just started to blog may survive. I’m not taking our personal responsibility out of the equation; perseverance, keeping the faith, and all that are the main factors, I know. I’m just saying this will make a difference.
There are many kind souls out here. I haven’t met them personally, but I feel lucky to have met them this early. Maybe it’s a tad presumptuous of me, but I already consider them friends.
Very thought-provoking post. It stopped me dead on my tracks.

I agree na trend nga ung ganyang situation. But then nowadays, if we’re going to do a survey with this question: “Why do you blog?!”, most probably majority of the answers would be to earn or make money online.
Oo makakatulong talaga blogging sa paggenerate ng income but then again, hindi basta basta ang ginagawa natin. We need hard work and offer some time in blogging. One more thing, sana hindi mawala yung essence ng BLOG, as an avenue of communication, we blog to make money and of course we should blog because we want to express something also.

It’s true. Thanks for sharing a wonderful thought!
It keeps me sane. I helped me survive the monotony of everyday life.
teka’t napapaenglish na ako.
yun lang po and happy new year!
You can make a comparison nung nagsimula ka at ngayon. Happy New Year din sayo Brother Utoy!
sa totoo lang, blogging kicked out my diary writing that i’ve been doing since am 8 years old
and yes, i blog because i love it. kung magtatagal ako? hindi ko alam.
kengkay´s last blog post…tuloy po kayo 2
Mommy Kengks paran pareho tayo.
couldn’t agree more. yes we can definitely earn money in blogging but we can’t make a living out of it. some people are creating blogs for the main reason of earning at kapag hinde sila kumita, tatamarin na at iiwanan nalang basta sa blog.
and i believe these “dead” blogs make the blogosphere overcrowded, if one wants to quit blogging, madali naman idelete ang account diba?
my two cents. Ü
joycee´s last blog post…No for Sharing
Wow nice idea yan Joycee! LOL. Thanks Joycee!
There is no doubt it is hard work. It’s better to get a job somewhere and time in and out to expect a regular paycheck. But Bloggers who make it do it for more reasons than money. It is an outlet for their passions, for that gab that won’t quit in their brains, for the love of finding new friends and for the courage to voice out your opinions. Monetization is just an added perk but overall, it’s more rewarding to find that somehow a blogger has encouraged, enlightened, invoked to thought and opinionated in matters that are close to his heart.

I think I will survive as I provide one of the most unique content among Filipino bloggers. Even though I am not earning big since I don’t do SEO, I am very much appreciated with the comments of some fellow bloggers. That serves as my fulfillment.

Very well said. Comments are also part of an achievement of every blogger, but no comments on your post doesn’t mean you’re nothing. The time you spent in writing unique article is already an achievement. Aim high!
those with passion will survive. as for me, my blogs may come and go, but the passion to write will continue.

P.S. happy, happy new year ambo!
Hi Edel. Happy New Year to you too! You’re right. For now, let’s enjoy what we’ve started. It’s something that we can’t live without na din kasi.
For me, blogging is a choice. And if there’s something calling us to blog, then it’s money – it’s what others believe that blogging is all about. Making money out of blogging should not be taken seriously in the first place or we’ll be out of the blogosphere too soon. Matirang matibay, kumbaga.
Good conversation with your friend, Ambo.

Thanks Makoy!
Hope to see you back in the country!
I certainly agree with you that many are called in the blogosphere but only few are chosen. In my case for example, I’ve been blogging since late 2006 but only decided to go professional only in the last quarter 2008 so it really takes time to blog. However, I can personality assure you that only those who are really passionate (like us…hehehe) will survive.
By the way, thanks for the linky love!
Snow, never thought you’ve been in the blogosphere for 3 years. That’s an accomplishment! More power to you and dearbloggery!
