Flash Report: Bomb Explosion at the House of Representatives

The House of Representative was rocked by a bomb explosion this evening around 8pm Manila time. The reports said, three Congressmen were injured in the incident, 9 others and 1 dead.

One of the Congressmen said, they were having dinner with colleagues at the South Lounge, when they heard the explosion around 10 minutes after session adjourned at exactly 8:07 p.m. The blast came from a van parked on the driveway of the south wing of the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City, where the House holds session, one of the staffs said. The explosion triggered a fire and caused the ceiling of the foyer to collapse. Twisted steel and debris were scattered at the blast site.

According to the reports, Congressman Tevez was also injured and the latter was brought to a nearby hospital. Gabriela Representative Luz Ilagan, her driver, and the driver of Gabriela Representative Liza Maza were also wounded and taken to the Malvar Hospital, Maza said.

Speaker De Venecia during the interview, the explosion was definitely not caused by a grenade, it’s a bomb. It was certain, it’s an act of terrorism. Someone’s trying to scare the Congress.

Updates:

  • Representative Wahab Akbar of Basilan died while undergoing treatment in FEU Hospital at 10pm and Marcial Calvo, the driver of Rep. Luz Ilagan.
  • The authorities said, it’s too early to conclude if this is a personal attack to Representative Akbar or a terrorist attack.

      Jp,
Let’s keep our fingers crossed. Hope. Hope. Only hope.

      Lord,
I don’t know what happened to this act, The Human Security Act of 2007 or the known Anti-terrorism Law. I think there must be wrong here. Poor innocent people.

Nakakaawa na tayo. Lagi na lang headline ang Pinas sa mga kaguluhan sa bansa natin. Palagay ko, panahon na para mag evict ng housemate yang si kuya. Tsk tsk tsk.

this just goes to show that terrorists and other lawless elements are getting bolder. who would have thought that a bomber would get through the security cordon of congress?

      Monaco,

That was one of the questions discussed during the premilinary investigation of the incident. How can ordinary people feel safe that even Congress is not free from terrorists?
