6 Ways to Increase Comments

I believe that majority of the online community readers are lurkers, i mean they just pass and go, read without leaving a comment. Let’s say 99% belong to the lurkers and 1% are best contributers.
The following are just an observation to get more comments on your post.
1. Like me, i don’t usually read long post unless with substance. In writing your post, make it brief and short. The subject should be clear and avoid flowery words. In reality, there’s nothing wrong in writing long post, but be creative when doing one.
2. Be generous to your readers. Writing all you know in a post is definitely an obvious task of a blogger, but setting aside some of the issues that can be tackled in a comment section is better. If you feel like an expert or let’s say you’re really an expert, do not forget that some of your readers are experts too.
3. Some readers are not familiar with blogs and do not know how to use the comment section. If i were you, inviting comments are very useful.
4. Do not leave your post ends up with nothing. Try leaving questions before and after your post. Setting your readers mind is an effective tool to leave a comment after reading your post.
5. Answer or interact with their comments. I notice that some bloggers leave comments hanging. If you’re in their shoes, how would you feel? Interaction with your readers is an important task of a blogger. If they leave a question, answer them back. If they leave a comment, praise them by saying thank you or that’s a good comment. Remember your answer/interaction makes them feel valuable to you.
6. Lastly, some blogs require you to register before leaving a comment. I seldom do even the topic deserves a comment. Some people like me are lazy in doing that stuff. Some people sets boundaries. Some people do not want their personal information be published. If i were you, make your comment box simple and easy to use.

Not all sign-up-first blogs or forums iniiwasan ko. If I had something good to say, I make the effort to sign up…pag hindi ‘nofollow’ ang site.
So, on another thought, make your site followable, maski yun lang ang consolation nung nag-comment. If it’s a rash and rude comment, madali namang alisin. Although may blogs na hindi pwedeng alisin yun like sa i.ph so it boils back down dun sa list.

Pusa pwedeng pwede ka sa wordpress. dali lang gawin sa wordpress from blogspot. i did it last night sa photoblog ko. teka, link ko muna heyokity mo. di ko pa pala na update.
maging suplado, wag pansinin ang mga comments tulad ng “great idea, but i beg to differ”
magreply lang sa mga may sense na comment, i-spam ang mga nonsense na comment… may iwan ng note na ini-spam mo ang kanyang comment dahil walang kwenta naman.
this will drive off shallow comments and invite sensible conversations.

Your tips are correct. I often don’t leave a comment when there is nothing to add. Also, I might add as well that the entry in itself should be an engaging conversation like you said an interaction.

on my part naman , I can’t twist bloggers arms just to leave comment…it’s enough that they lurk ..aba eh counted na visit na yun ha!
You’re right thess. They still belong to our traffic.
In all honesty, most of us bloggers starts as “lurker”, I still considered them as “legit” readers, they may tend to leave comments or not but it always depends on the topic of your post. Sometimes, they are too “shy” to leave comments or ok, just plain “lurkers” who get something from your blog (I have lots of them stealing my free mp3’s but that’s ok) but it never bothers me, besides people leave their own traces by “clicks”. Give them the counter-attack by leaving comments to their blog first (if they have) then they’ll know why, hehehe.
If I like the post, I’ll leave comments. I don’t leave comments just for the sake of commenting tho.

Like you, i do leave comments only if the topic interest me. But sometimes, for the benefit of the doubt, i do it in some blogs for the sake of striking a conversation. Talking about lurkers, hey they are the majority of the clickers club! You know what i mean. hehehe.
